Reasoning Behind the Trip

For the past five years, Gorey Electrical Services have been servicing Welshpool based business Instant Scaffolds and Access Equipment WA. Over this period, as a qualified electrical tradesmen Scott Lewis, who is now a Director of Gorey’s, has learnt how to service their Traction Hoists.

Instant Scaffolds and Access Equipment WA has recently invested in BISOMAC Traction hoists that are manufactured in Japan. Due to design and service requirement being different from the existing Traction Hoists models, the Owner-Director of Instant Scaffolds proposed a trip to Japan for Scott to undergo training. This training was conducted by the Japanese manufacturers and will allow for annual servicing of the new traction hoists, ensuring their safe operation on Perth’s high-rise buildings.

The Japan Trip

The first leg of the journey kicked off in Tokyo where representatives from the manufacturer’s greeted the Gorey team and commenced a tour of their distribution factory. Throughout the tour, the team were shown the new traction hoists in operation, also gaining insights into the trialling and testing procedures the equipment must pass through prior to distribution.

Following the tour in Tokyo, the team flew south west to Nagasaki where a 2-day training course was delivered at the manufacturer’s production workshop. The course was presented by two Japanese engineers, with representatives translating the training back to English. Over the two-day course, the team was exposed to step-by-step processes on how to service the traction hoists. This will allow Scott to pull apart the traction hoists, check them for faults or issues, clean them and successfully reassemble them in working order. The engineers then outlined how the traction hoists are put together, as well as how they operate on the platforms utilised for high-rise building window cleaning.

Outcomes of the Trip

Following the Japan trip, Scott Lewis is now one of a handful of people in Australia that is a trained and skilled electrician able to service and repair the traction hoists, ensuring the safety and operation is to the highest possible standard. Training and knowledge plays a large role in maintaining these standards due to the nature of operational use for scaffolding traction hoists.
